Our Firm
Our founder, Iason Skouzos, began his career as a tax officer at the Greek Ministry of Finance before entering private practice in 1971. From the outset, the firm was handling substantial tax and commercial disputes, including cases before Greece’s highest administrative courts.
That starting point never left us. Tax is not a practice area we happen to offer — it’s the lens the firm still thinks through. A succession plan, a corporate transaction, a real estate acquisition, a family relocating to Greece: each carries a tax consequence, and we’ve never treated that as someone else’s problem to flag and move past.
How that shapes the work
Legal questions rarely arrive labelled by practice area. A family’s succession plan touches immigration and property law. A company’s expansion into Greece touches employment and regulatory questions alongside the corporate ones. We don’t parcel these out to separate teams working in isolation — the same lawyers who understand the tax exposure are involved in structuring the rest.
We also start from a different end of the problem than most firms are trained to. Rather than beginning with the legal doctrine and working toward an answer, we start with what the client is actually trying to achieve, and work backward to the cleanest legal route there. It sounds obvious. In practice, it means fewer technically-correct answers that don’t actually solve anything.
Working across systems
Greece sits at a point where common-law and continental-European legal thinking don’t automatically translate into each other. We work in both directions daily — for international clients trying to make sense of Greek law, and for their foreign advisers trying to fit a Greek answer into a plan built elsewhere. That fluency isn’t a service we list; it’s a byproduct of having done this for five decades without ever being a purely domestic practice.
Explaining Greek tax and legal mechanics clearly, without losing what makes them different, is most of the job.
